Okay, so it’s not exactly new. Southside coffee opened a few months ago on 6th Avenue and 19th in the South Slope, but it slipped by us until we happened upon a discussion of the neighborhood’s best coffee joints on Brooklynian, and we thought we’d give them a shout out since it’s not exactly a high traffic location. It was opened by two former Tea Lounge employees and a former frequenter of the 7th Avenue location. Report from the street is: great coffee, nice fellas running the joint and even a good place from which to blog.
We happened upon this place while going to open houses in August (ah, August… sigh. different time.) & thought the coffee was great. Liked the logo so much we bought a t-shirt, too.
The raspberry-coconut muffin I just ate at Southside kicked some serious ass. Also, they just played Fear of a Black Planet in its entirety. Southside, please stay here forever.
walked by this place today. Seemed like a nice place to get some coffee.
Southside… Best cup of coffee I’ve had in a long time.
Does Chicago born mean that the coffee is allowed to vote more than once on election day?

This is in Greenwood Heights, in my estimation. Greenwood rules!
Great coffee (strong!)
And not exactly a low traffic area either, between Kitchen Bar, Toby’s and Safe Haven, its a nice little stretch. Southside seems to be doing well – there’s always a crowd when I stop in. Now if we could only get another store/cafe for the space across the street that used to be an Italian deli.
