Streetlevel: Abilene Spin-Off Coming to 3rd Avenue
According to the tipster who sent in this photo, Court Street bar and restaurant Abilene is building out this space at 543 3rd Avenue in Gowanus. Should be a nice fit with the pentecostal church next door! GMAP
This is going to be the next great place. 3rd ave has always been an eclectic mix of
business and pleasure. The brave have always bet on the third ave strip, now we can
bet drunk then hop next door to pentecostal and make it all better.

Sort of – depends on your definition of nearby, I guess. The BGH spinoff is opening (sometime soon, I hope) on 4th up at Carroll. Unless there’s another one down here that I’m not aware of.
I like to see more and more happening in gowanus. That said, it’s a little boring if everything that opens up is just a spinoff or a carbon copy of something in park slope or carroll gardens. I like that gowanus looks and feels like a different neighborhood. Hopefully the owners will do something a little different here.
Oh it will be fine – they put Pentecostal churches inside any box these days so they are bound to wake up with new neighbors!
Wasn’t BGH also opening something up nearby as well?
