Storefront Turnover on 7th Avenue

Late to this, but must second the comment that Brooklyn Eyeworks on 5th Ave and 14th is great. And I agree that it’s nice SOMETHING — even another glasses/bank/cell store–is moving into the vacant storefront. (Which, sorry to speak ill of the dead, I found out was home to one of the wort laundromats in existence when our washing machine was on the fritz.)
Mule:
I can’t speak for brownstoner, but while I’d rather see some adorable mom and pop store open up selling more fragrant soaps for the bathroom on 7th Avenue, I do enjoy seeing a vacant storefront being filled at a time of one of the worst economic times we have seen in 100 years.
So yes, bring on whatever would like to open right now. It’s better than empty and abandoned, which might not be too far away.
There are more than enough other spaces for rent along every retail strip in Brooklyn right now to cater to exactly what it seems you might be looking for at this time.
is it true that brownstoner thinks opening a chain store cohens optical is a positive note for park slope? would brownstoner be for a gap, benettons, mcdonalds, office depot etc. any other chains would you like to see in park slope or for that matter clinton hill brownstoner? just curious
funny all the talk, I’m leaving to Argentina tomorrow. Only 1 day in BA. My spouse’s family is from Cordoba, So I’ll have to pick up a pair of glasses quickly.
Yeah, I walked by the shop on President and 7th the other day and I think that’s the place that is selling their fixtures on the forum and I suppose, closing…
Brenda,
Isn’t that Michael’s shop selling its furnishings on teh forum today? Are they closing? renovating?
I was all over the city, Goldie. Mostly in Palermo (which is where I’ve stayed both times) but certainly did pop over to the Recoleta from time to time. I think I’ll be back in April as well!
11217, ive been to B.A. several times (going back in april) and dont recall so many optical stores that it jumped out at me. were you in recoleta with all the oldsters, or just had one too many fernet brancas?
Yep just bought new glasses at Urban Optical, good service and prices!
