fireworks-1208.jpgFor the procrastinators out there, Brooklyn Based has put together a list of last-minute New Year’s Eve options for tonight. Among the options: An $80 pre fixe dinner at Bussaco on Union Street in Park Slope, a masquerade party at Huckleberry Bar on Grand Street in Williamsburg and a $50 champagne sampler at Botanica in Red Hook. Of course, you could always join Marty in Prospect Park for the fireworks. What are your plans?

  1. The whistles are already set up on the quad (yay!) Could it really be the last year? Is the crazy guy who does it retiring or something? I hope not, because this is the only fun thing I have ever seen occur on New Years Eve!

BrooklynGreene, you can enter the campus from Willoughby, at about the halfway point of Pratt’s property, and probably from the Dekalb side, too. They usually start the ruckus at 11 or 11:30. Bring Champagne. And gloves. It’s gonna be cold as shite out there.

  2. What time and where do we have to go on the Pratt campus for the whistles. I’ve walked the Pratt campus but if someone can tell me which bldg is the mechanicl bldg with the whistles it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  3. Sweet irony: After resolving to visit the park every day for a year, I’ll miss the fireworks tonight. Got an invitation from old friends in the ‘burbs who are just too well-loved to refuse. I did make it over on three days out of four, however, so somebody send up a bottle rocket for me in absentia! And if anybody gets a nifty photo of the fireworks and feels like sharing, send it to me and I’ll post it on the blog, ok? (brenda[at]tenthleper.us) Happy New Year to all, even the What!

  4. “Don’t forget the steam whistles at Pratt……– I hear this might be the last year for it.”

Hubby went to Pratt and we had the fortune of doing it one year. The engine room is a sight to see, in itself.
Why is it the last year for the whistles? 🙁

  5. alsawo – You may be able to see the Battery Park fireworks from a high floor in the heights. Might be partially blocked, but you might get some view – hard to say unless you know where the barge is in relation to your view.

  6. Don’t forget the steam whistles at Pratt. Weather conditions tonight should be perfect – cold and crisp – which makes the swirling steam and moans of the whistles reverberate right through you. If you are at all inclined, do it this year — I hear this might be the last year for it.

  7. I went to the Park last year and it was great. Nice and low key. Not too crowded. Great visibility.

Sorry, Alsawo, I don’t think Brooklyn Heights is going to be a good viewing spot. If you even have a line of sight it will look wimpy and far away, like wathing fireworks in Bayonne from the Promonade.

We’re also doing dinner and drinks in the Slope and will then head to the Park.
