We thought this had already happened, but apparently now it’s really official: The City is now the sole owner of Brooklyn Bridge Park. The New York State Public Authorities Control Board yesterday ratified an agreement from last March, reports The Post. As part of the change in control, the city is committed to ponying up an additional $55 million towards the park’s build-out, money that it had once allocated towards a makeover of the Javits Center.

  1. Don’t worry about these piddling costs DIBS – did you see the NYDN item today about city pensions? – they had a bunch of pensioners over $200K, one of whom was also salaried and taking home over $500K.

I totally got into the wrong gig.

  2. the additional $55 mil payment is contingent upon finding an acceptable operational funding plan from within the park. The current plan that includes residential development on the uplands of pier 6(its the two empty spaces north of Atlantic Avenue). That plan is under review. The local state senator and assembly person have a joint veto on the new plan. No acceptable plan and the city is not obligated to put in the additional money….

  3. So how much went to the architects who designed those ridiculous steel domes???

The rest of the high costs of course are due to ridiculous union wages, most likely huge amounts of overtime.
