Soul Food Stand-In on Dekalb
A tipster sent in this photo of the banner that went up at 96 Dekalb Avenue, the former address of the popular soul food spot Ruthie’s. Without any insider knowledge, it seems pretty clear from the sign what kind of food they’ll be serving. It’s possible they may want to consider adding an apostrophe though…

Ruthies was our favorite neighborhood take-out restaurant for over 10 years. I hope her kids carry on the tradition and keep the smothered chicken, cabbage, and cornbread coming!
Apostrophes are traditionally not included in names of businesses, periodicals, etc. Copy editors out there see CMS 7.27.
Not to confuse anyone…the collard greens at Royal Rib house are delicious but the cabbage is super delicious along with the ribs, bbq and fried chicken, short ribs, yams, mac and cheese, red velvet cake, banana pudding, tater salad, beef ribs, string beans, corn bread. Well you guys get it.EVERYTHINg is delicious at that joint that has been in business for over 30 years but sometimes one wants to sit down, chat, enjoy the ambience and good food and drink instead of taking it out.
the rib house is the truth! love the food but not the wait.
btw, i didn’t know Ruthie’s closed. I guess i’m out of the loop. i know she passed away but i figured her children were going to continue the business since it was so popular. sad, just sad.
I wish someone would open a good sit down soul food joint.I get my takeout at Royal Rib House on Halsey off Throop Ave. The wait it well worth it for some good collard greens but better cabbage, rice , ribs and chicken.Damn…now I am hungry.
Miss Ruthie passed away last November and her children (last name Foster) have decided to continue the business.
Apostrophe for what. Is it not possible to have more than one Foster?
***Bid half off peak comps***
an apostrophe might not be needed, it would depend on what fosters is.

Brooklyn is in desperate need of really good soul food. Laziness has set in and cooking my own collard greens doesn’t happen as much as it used to. Please open quickly and please be good! If you are, I promise to open my wallet quite frequently 🙂
Hooray for neckbones and fatbacks!
