The latest edition of the long-running Prospect Lefferts Gardens neighborhood association newsletter “The Echo” is up online just in time for this weekend’s house tour. The Lefferts Manor Association newsletter describes in detail the seven townhouses and one apartment that will be on this year’s tour.

All are within a few blocks of each other, making this year’s tour compact and easy to walk. Most are designed by well known architects such as John J. Petit and Axel Hedman and replete with original details.

Highlights of the 51st Prospect Lefferts Gardens House and Garden Tour include a colorfully decorated Edwardian row house with a pink kitchen, a garden apartment with tropical palm-leaf wallpaper, and an unusual three-story 1920s row house with terrace and attached garage.

No fewer than four gardens and assorted other outdoor spaces will offer inspiration to budding green thumbs. This includes the backyard Lefferts Lounge, where attendees can sip a drink, listen to live music, and chat with neighbors.

One of the houses on the tour was recently renovated by the children who grew up in it, realizing their parents’ long-held dream to be on the tour.

The newsletter also profiles a longtime local resident, covers a new hardware store, delves into the history of neighborhood oak barrel flower planters, and surveys plants suitable for sidewalk tree pits.

The house tour takes place rain or shine from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online ahead of time or in person the day of the tour. Check-in takes place in front of IX Restaurant at 43 Lincoln Road, where ticket holders will receive a guide booklet with all the details on the participating sites.
