Kind of confused by this corner. Were the three previous businesses (Trout, BBQ place, and corner restaurant) all owned by one entity?
On the Trout portion, which was next to Pacifico, there’s a permit on the plyboard fence that mentions a bar/restaurant.
So it looks like it’ll be like before? Multiple businesses on that corner, not just one?
Hilarious but not crazy suggestion, Chuck!
I’m with Shoots and Leaves. Zoe and Papel are more likely to be harmed by this new store than the other way around. Sucks to be a small business these days.
Maybe the fact that it’s a regional/national chain with an online presence will give it the edge in the Paper Wars?
Who’s got more foot traffic? Court and Smith seem to be more browse-y than Atlantic. (At least when I go out for a window shopping stroll in the area, I tend to go Court or Smith; Atlantic is for when I have an errand in mind–Kimera to pick up a bridesmaid dress or what have you).
Brownstoner – you should create a new widget for how long your readers think a new business will last.
I’ll say this for stationery, though: you need to touch it to buy it. At least at first. And for anything complex – especially wedding invitations – customers need to sit down and look over books and talk to experts to see how it all fits together.
I think they will pull beyond just your neighborhood. When I got wedding invitations done, I didn’t just go to the store that was within walking distance. I give Zoe a year until they’re done if anything.
just had a look at their website. how many baby shower and wedding invites and desk calendars do they think people need in my neighborhood? the curse will continue.
stray bono … you are not underestimating. there is a very small market for expensive paper products and this place has no chance.
i’ll give it a year before bust city. no chance of profit.
