Tonight I felt like I was in a scene from my childhood (in the early 60’s). I am staying at the Westin Bonaventura hotel in downtown LA. It was built sometime in the 60’s with that swanky “Jetson’s” look. Four tall cylindrical glass towers, complete with outside glass elevators, skybridges, etc.
On the 35th floor they have a nice steakhouse restaurant, and we went there for dinner. It is a circular enclosure that overlooks the city. I thought to myself: “This looks like a scene from an early 60’s movie set in *swanky* LA. To complete the scene, they had 1960’s Frank Sinatra music piped in (“Come fly with me, come fly away…”).
I ordered a Manhattan. It was the proper thing to do in such a setting. It reminded me of the movies and TV shows I watched when I was a kid. Even though I had slacks and a sport jacket on (my “booth babe” outfit), I felt underdressed. I should have been in a tux. That’s the way “Frankie” would have wanted it.
Man I kicked butt at this conference (OFC/NFOEC: Optical Fiber Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineer’s Conference). Our presentation went well, and we made alot of key contacts.
I am such a good booth babe. Damn I’m so good, I scare myself.
Have a good time tomorrow. There is an outside chance I will show up, but it will be late in the evening.
not sure. i dont think so. i want to say we had it at a museum, but i think we had it in a class with a guest speaker. (doubtful it was a real astronaut, probably just a wannabe in a spacesuit telling us how cool science was or something). our field trips were lame and they would always wind up cancelling them a month before saying “because you all were bad blah blah blah we arent going on this trip..”
Yeah, it was chalky but you could taste the flavor if you sucked on it a bit before chomping. Plus, astronauts ate it so it was just kinda cool. I had it probably around the same time from the gift shop of a science museum. Maybe the Franklin Institute. did north jersey kids go there?
