To respond to Rob’s initial posting: Brooklyn has “cachet” now — it’s kind of how downtown used to be before it got ruined by celebrities and tourists and such. Brooklyn will no doubt soon be ruined as well.
In fact, last night on Bedford Ave. and North 6th I saw those fauxpunks that hang around Astor Place. And lots of people who look like they belong in the Meatpacking District.
