Nah, they weren’t married. I could tell by the body language. Nor did they appear to be brother and sister. My best guess is the guy is purposefully playing her.
mopar…then they were already married and for more than a few years. Not a date.
denton & benson…yes, I want to add a number of things to that dressed comment
We’re pretty old school at our firm and we all wear jackets & ties. Le Perigord, La Grenouille…these are places I would never go without a tie. La Grenouille is probably the best & nicest & classiest restaurant in NYC. None of that loud music, loud people bullshit
At dinner tonight, a young couple sat across from each other in silence while separately texting. For pretty much the whole time. At an expensive and romantic restaurant.
I want to pick this debate up with you next week. I actually think formalism will make a comeback. Ironically enough, I think a force for that change will be Obama, as the columnist John McWhorter has written (do you know him?).
I’m from the dress means nothing school. I was glad to see that the 21 Club has just dropped its tie requirement. Apparently it, and the Rainbow Room were the last to ask for ties. And the Rainbow Room was just to sucker tourists into thinking it was a ‘class joint’.
I remember I had to cancel a reservation at Lutece (in my early twenties) cuz I couldn’t find my only tie. I also remember being offended in La Caravelle in my twenties by all the mofos with ties who smoked cigars after dinner while I was trying to enjoy mine.
Benson, just a quick thank you for the kind words and coining the term “clustersnark.”

Have a good weekend.

I’m glad priorities are changing.
Sigh. Late to dinner again because of Brownstoner. Happy weekend all.
I think DIBS’ end has been jabbering lately.
