The ever-popular Open House New York takes place again this weekend, with scores of hard-to-access sites around the city opening their doors to the public. While some of the most-popular locales that require reservations are already fully booked, there are plenty of others that are still open or don’t require any reservations at all. Of particular interest to us are Floyd Bennett Field, the Litchfield Villa in Prospect Park (above) and the Brooklyn Historical Society. There’s also a performance art piece called Angels & Accordions being put on at Green-Wood Cemetery from 12 to 3:30 on Saturday that sounds like fun. Please send us your photos from the tour or post them to the Brownstoner photo group on Flickr.

  1. The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation has greatly increased the number of tours it does. The Fort Greene Connection, a coalition of organizations, got a tour in September. I think the community board tours the facility once a year. Based on those two examples, it seems that organized groups can arrange to get in. I’ve been told that this is a priority of the now-not-so new president.

  2. Among the places I most wanted to visit was the Brooklyn Navy Yard… Sadly, this tour appears to have filled up w/in seconds (sparking an email string of disgruntled comments wondering how the tour (22 seats) was filled). Not to spark a similar string here… I am curious whether anyone has gotten to tour the navy yard and… what – if any ideas folks here have about gaining access outside of the OHNY annual tour to get in there and see it.

    thanks –
