It’s been a long, hard road for EN, but the Nigerian restaurant finally opened its doors last week after a couple of years of delays. (We some some folks going in and out, though we’ve been unable to confirm if food is actually being served yet.) The slow timeline was due in large part to a complete disregard for Landmarks regulations upfront; after initially installing large plate glass windows with metal framing, the owner had to start from scratch with a new design and work within the LPC guidelines. Regardless, we’re happy to see all that’s in the past now and hope the new spot does well.

  1. I have to say that a lot of the delays around this particular restaurant getting it together has had a lot to do with them having changed contractors and changed the interior design any number of times. They didn’t have one plan and stick with it from the beginning.

The exterior issues could/would all have been dealt with rather swiftly.

But it seems like it has been the restaurant people’s slowness, fits and starts, changes in plans that have dragged this out…which is fine, as long as no one gets hurt and they have deep pockets.

Frankly, I’ve been finding the interior to be kind of fun!

  2. that’s cool. but it just proves to show how absurd landmarking really is.. how it cost more time and effort and loss of income arguing about something as absurd as how a window looks. maybe landmarking needs to be replaced with a community based aesthetics committe that can decide on something, quickly, and not have to adhere to old antiquated ideas of architecture? granted most new construction looks like crap on a popsicle stick and old buildings really do look amazing, but there needs to be a middle ground.. there really are some fugly monstrosities that are ‘preserved’. but on the other hand i do kinda sorta see the point.

best of luck to this new restaurant, i hope it succeeds.

btw what kind of food is exactly?

  3. I spoke with the guys putting this place together over a year ago about the planned restaurant. What great news that they finally got it all together, I’ll definitely be checking this one out.
