Geek Out Over Vintage Buses With the New York Transit Museum

The vintage wheels will be rolling up to the Brooklyn Bridge next month with the return of the New York Transit Museum’s bus extravaganza.

The 25th Annual Bus Festival is heading to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday, October 7. During the day-long event you’ll be able to hop aboard vintage buses, snap up a temporary transit tattoo and help build a bus-friendly city at the Education Station.

The museum has invited some “special guests” including Bus 2969, the “Jackie Gleason Bus.” Designed for New York in 1948, its original number was changed so that the bus matched the one that Gleason was frequently photographed with while in character as Ralph Kramden in “The Honeymooners.”

Other buses that might make an appearance are Bus 1263, known as “Betsy,” and Bus 100, the “Fishbowl.” There will also be some work vehicles on display like the Tunnel Wrecker and the Tunnel Wash Truck.

The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 7 at Bridge Plaza at 11 Water Street in Dumbo. For more information check out the event page here.
