Join experts in the field for conversations about the people, places and architecture that define our city.

The New York Preservation Project (NYPAP), dedicated to documenting, preserving and celebrating the history of historic preservation in New York City, has kicked off their virtual programming with a series of coffee break conversations.

This week, architectural historian Francis Morrone will join NYPAP Executive Director Brad Vogel for a chat about the pioneer of New York City walking tours, Henry Hope Reed. He used walking tours, exhibitions and lectures as preservation advocacy, raising awareness of the importance of New York’s built environment before there was a preservation law. He was particularly passionate about classical architecture, and with the Municipal Art Society curated the show “Classical Brooklyn” at the Brooklyn Historical Society (then Long Island Historical Society) in 1957.

The NYPAP Zoom chat takes place on Wednesday, April 29 at 3:45 p.m. To RSVP and get the check-in details, drop an email to info@nypap.org in advance.

If you can’t fit this one into your schedule, the next one up is a May 6 chat with Patrick Ciccone on the new edition of Bricks and Brownstone, the seminal book on the New York row house.

Editor’s note: The author is an NYPAP board member.
