New York YIMBY uncovered new renderings for Two Trees’ planned skyscraper at 286 Ashland Place, also known as the BAM South site, by landscape architects Grain Collective. The renderings of the landscaping show a new view of the 32-story tower as well as details of the outdoor and cultural space. The public courtyard features a stepped sitting area and raised platform.

As reported, the development will have 384 apartments, 20 percent of which will be affordable. The building will also have 21,928 square feet of retail, 45,148 square feet of cultural space (including a branch of the Brooklyn Public Library), and a large outdoor courtyard.

The architect of record is Ismael Levya, and Ten Arquitectos is designing the development. Do you think the landscaping will enhance the area?

  1. Im ok with high density housing as well, but this looks terrible. Seriously, parking an enormous high rise directly in front of two of Brooklyn’s most iconic buildings is insane.

  2. Excited for the high density development that is happening in downtown BK, Atlantic Yards and BAM district. The cities housing shortage has been endemic since my arrival in 99 and with the population rising the only way to truest address this is more dense development. Would much rather see larger / denser development like this in a contextual area like BAM than a bunch of fingers all over the brownstone belt.

And please PLEASE rezone Atlantic Ave ASAP!!

  3. Not apparently the people who will move into Two Trees at BAM. And not apparently the people who have lived in high rise coops in other parts of the borough for decades.

  4. Putnam denizen, you’ve conflated two of my points, that the building will be entirely in shadow during certain parts of the day, and that sitting on the steps will be a lot different. I didn’t say anything about sitting on the steps during the day. Anyway, just because there’s a big “transportation hub” doesn’t mean the transportation there can accommodate lots of giant buildings bringing thousands of new residents to the area.

  5. Well the point of the comment section is to express your opinions or beliefs.
Just because you don’t care that doesn’t mean “no one cares”. I enjoy reading comments, whether or not they’re negative ones.

  6. The savings bank might be fine, but this is pretty awful for BAM. Won’t the main building on Lafayette be completely in the shadow of this building during certain parts of the day. Sitting out on the steps in front of BAM is going to be a very different experience with this giant wall.
