One of the ground-up construction projects underway at the Navy Yard is the 89,000-square-foot Perry Building (so called because of its location on old Perry Street). Like all new construction at the Navy Yard going forward, the three-story structure, will be as green as possible. In this case, they are aspiring to earn a LEED Silver rating. The wind turbine and solar array on the roof won’t hurt. Like many of the adapted buildings within the yard, this building is being designed for industrial purposes on the ground floor (it’ll have 28-foot ceilings and 4 loading areas) and then space for offices or other lower-impact creative purposes on the upper floors. Target completion date is October 2008. The tenant, it was just announced this morning, will be SurrounArt, a company that handles and stores fine art, that aims to create the first “Museum Resource Center” in the city; the company already occupies 71,000 square feet at the Navy Yard.

  1. Here’s some news from Crown Heights today:

Police tracked down a Crown Heights woman who burned an acquaintance with acid during an argument over her boyfriend, authorities said yesterday.

Suspect Cherise French, 29, clashed with the woman in French’s Park Place apartment at Rochester Avenue at 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 6, sources said.

French allegedly punched the woman in the head before the boyfriend separated the pugilistic pair.

The victim went downstairs and, five minutes later, French came by and tossed the acid on her, causing breast, stomach and shoulder burns.

French fled but was busted Monday on charges of assault, menacing and harassment.
