At Tuesday night’s community meeting, Barclays Arena officials covered a range of operational topics including the size and scope of the the event schedule as well as parking. (For complete coverage of the meeting check out Atlantic Yards Report.) 220 events a year are currently contemplated, including 44 professional basketball games, 26 college basketball games, about 50 concerts, a few Disney on Ice programs and professional boxing. Capacity at basketball games will be 18,200 and at concerts it’ll be around 17,500. As for parking, the lot bordered by Dean, Pacific, Carlton and Vanderbilt will contain 565 spaces, 24 of which will be set aside for police and 150 for VIPs. There will be a mix of self-serve (yellow, above) and attended parking (brown). The parking will be mostly HOV and pre-paid. There will be entrances on Vanderbilt and Carlton and exits on Vanderbilt, Dean and Pacific. When pressed on the potential for cars leaving the lot via Vanderbilt to end up clogging residential streets, an arena rep said, ““We’re not traffic management people. Our goal is to get the lot empty.”
