  1. For what it’s worth, Slocum Place, where the 88 year old granny got mugged is in Ditmas Park or Prospect Park South, not Kensington (wrong side of Coney Island Ave). Just Sayin…

  2. Here’s the odd part – in my precinct, the 71st, there hasn’t been a single murder all year, vs. 2 at this time last year, rape is down 60%, and robbery down 16.9%, with felony assault down 9.1%. What is way up is auto theft (42.3%), burglary (22%), and, less so, grand larceny (3.7%). It’s my understanding that if the value of goods taken in a mugging is under $1000 it’s petit larceny (called robbery here, I believe) – once the girls start carrying designer purses and everyone’s got iPhones, laptops, etc., you get up to grand larceny a lot faster then when you’re just stealing from poor people. So could these three be considered crimes of gentrification, as people have more valuable possessions to steal?
