I think I’ve been the victim of the taxi/cab scam a number of times. My cab driver last night told me to check my receipts for the number “1” fare category which covers non-airport trips within NYC.
To be honest, I would have appreciated it if the various articles I read on this in the mainstream press had given some indication what consumers should check for and also what to do if they think they’ve been scammed.
BHF listen to the real estate agents when they say home prices will eventually go up. Just like we are all going to die one day. These geniuses always seem to get it right.
“Instead of betting on home prices, you make a bet on whether money will become cheaper or more expensive, allowing you to buy more or less house.” – NY Times
Ultimately, that IS betting on home prices. And it assumes rate hikes have no effect on prices. An assumption that is absolutely ridiculous. How did prices rise so fast?
“I can’t prove to you that housing prices have definitely bottomed out” – NY Times
Yes you can! Case-Shiller YOY positive again, stupid!
“If you’re in for the long ter it’s ALWAYS a great time to buy.” – DIBS
In reality, however, you don’t necessarily get to choose the end of your term. Job loss, divorce, relocation, higher taxes, etc., may choose it for you. You have to recognize these real risks when purchasing a home, not just the upside of some fantasy.

How did the 33 yr old get to be a life tenant too?
Psych disability?
For a 33 year old dude living with his mother who is obviously capable of reading legal documents and sit for an interview by the NYTimes reporter.
so that’s what they call scamming the system these days.
Nice to know where are tax dollars are being spent.
No wonder social security is on schedule to go bankrupt by 2037. Just in time for me to miss out on everything I’ve paid into my entire working life.
Rob, if you can poo honey, you should welcome poo mist. Time to move up to en suite accommodations.
The Prospect Park mystery article is hilarious in its over the top writing style. There must be a word for that kinda junk, reminds me of Quincy. Clearly it’s a Chupacabra.
Great article from the times on how real estate agents are nothing more than blood sucking parasites.
by the snob issue, I’m sure you mean that private schools should be exempt from laws and regs that ordinary people follow.
