Oh please, dittoburg, conspiracy theory? How about simply common sense.
Just a single glance at the state of our railwayss as compared to any other remotely “westernized” country and you can bet on it with certainty.
Most politicians won’t even touch rail expansion plans, and will only get behind big money toward highways, highways, highways. Awful.
The one big silver lining on gas/oil/vehicular/airline prices
going berserk is that people may start to consider this kind of efficient and inexpensive transportation important enough to shout for. We’ll see.
The more quotes I read from Cats the lower my view of him. He needs to cast his net beyond Astoria Federal and Sovereign Bank.
Thanks for the link

GOOD!
dittoburg, that’s one theory.

Given the active promotion and support of the oil and motor companies in the suburbanization of America, I wouldn’t bet against it.
Both Daily News links go to the House of D’ story.
Yeah…i got the pic of my house from the city archives and there was also a trolley pictured on Halsey street at my corner…nice.
SF has all the good ones from all over the country
The removal of trolleys was a major step backward in public transportation. They were efficient, quiet and the pollution is non-existent on the streets (and controllable at the source – power stations). I don’t know the reason for removing them, but the consipracy theorist in me can’t help but think that a few palms were greased by the oil and/or motor corporations.
Wouldn’t it be cool if they brought those bad boys (street cars) back in service? Be like the MUNI in San Fran.
