  1. I know 8:31. Used to be one of our favorite Saturday afternoons… head to the park overlooking the statue of liberty after getting a couple of key lime pies at Steve’s, let the kids wander and toddle about for awhile, head to LeNell’s for something “special” for husband who loves it :), get a couple of iced lattes at Baked, or get a brew at one of the pubs while getting he kids a bite to eat, stop by the garden center (my favorite), then fill up on a weeks worth of groceries at Fairway before heading home.

No more. Not sure I can even bring myself to try it, because I’ll probably get too upset.

I know so many on this board think of me, and anyone who opposed Ikea, as ridiculous, romanticizing, hipster whiners, but it just isn’t true. We simply wanted something different.

Btw, what percentage of the new Ikea employees are actually from Red Hook? Anyone know? This was so often bandied about as the reason those of us who opposed this development in this particular place were fools, or artsy-fartsy idiots or whatever came to the offender’s head to call us.

  2. yes that’s correct no sidewalks along beard street because they have created a huge plywood contruction fence so people are forced to walk in the (rickety) cobblestone street toting their ikea junk. The traffic backed up on Columbia street, smack in the middle of the projects. FUN!
