5 Boro Cafe
The new Mexican restaurant 5 Boro Cafe, which replaced the restaurant Pit Stop, has their signs up and looks set to open pretty soon. They’re expanding from Queens, where they’ve gotten pretty good reviews. Looks like this place – especially with its outdoor seating – is going to be a nice addition to Columbia Street this summer. 1. It seems like an affront to open a Mexican place 4 doors down from Alma, which is like the flagship restaurant of Columbia St. I actually wonder if they did it deliberately, to get the overflow of customers who would otherwise have waited for a roofdeck table on summer nights. Columbia st. needs more restaurants for sure, but it would have been better served by a different cuisine. A place of the Buttermilk Channel variety would be most welcome in the area.

Pit Stop had great burgers and great eggs Benedict, both of which almost made being hung over enjoyable. (Almost.)

  2. One of the two times I went to the Pit Stop, I got eggs and sausage. I almost always get my eggs poached when I eat breakfast out (i can poach an egg, but don’t usually want to bother). It was deeeeelicious. Great little french-named snausages of some sort. And the egg was so effing tender and perfectly done. Man. And you got to play pétanque at the same time.

Is it confirmed that the new place will keep the pétanque?
