McCarren's Vagina Tree Split Open by Irene

It’s the end of an era. The large sycamore tree dubbed by locals the “Vagina Tree” because its resemblance to the female body part is no more. (See a photo of the tree in its former glory here.) According to The Brooklyn Paper (where this photo is also from), the decades-old London Plane was not resilient enough to withstand the strong overtures of Hurricane Irene, snapping on Sunday and damaging a nearby iron fence in the process. The incident resulted in what could be the final tweet from @thevaginatree: “I am the stump formally known as The Vagina Tree.”
