The Myrtle Avenue BID has really been kicking some ass. It seems like only yesterday the street was known as Murder Ave. and now there are condos going up and restaurants and shops proliferating. The latest spot to join the list is Los Pollitos III, the Park Slope spin-off which opened last week at Myrtle and Ryerson. In addition to the mariachi players, the restaurant was offering up half-price apps and margies. Anyone go? Los Pollitos III is located at 499 Myrtle Avenue, 718-636-6125.
Los Pollitos III Opens [Myrtle Avenue]
I agree with New2. I’ve had a turkey sandwich and a coffee from Cafe Martino and both were quite good, owner was very nice.
I like Los Pollitos and it is a welcome addition to Myrtle Ave. As soon as they hung that Los Pollitos banner, I was standing at the window waiting to get in. I live much further down in Bed-Stuy so I’ve been in pain waiting for nice sit down restaurants like this to reach my area.
I’ve been going to a new place called Cafe Martino the past couple of weeks. Cage Martino is located on Myrtle between Emerson and Classon (just a couple blocks east of Los Pollitos), and the owners are extremely nice and the food is great. I passed by the cafe today and it looks like they’ve just put up their awning. Brownstoner, please do a piece on this place.
I can never abandon Castro’s.
We love the Little Chickens! The chicken Sope is my favorite and the green is actualy- gasp- GREEN!.
I think that was Pollo Tropical on 43? Street and 5th Avenue.
Didn’t the one in sunset park close owing to, um, well, wasn’t the manager sexually assaulting all the female employees?
I too have been eating there (probably weekly) since they opened a few months ago. We ate in twice, but we actually find the delivery to be a mid-week god-send. I get the super tacos (vegetarian) and they are the most perfect form of Mexican food I’ve ever had. The guacamole is a little bit spicy and they provide fresh lime wedges. Mmmmmmm. And so cheap!
Los Pollitos did open a few month ago, but like many (smart!) restaurants, I don’t think they wanted to promote their grand opening until they had some kinks worked out. Good luck to them.
Myrtle hasn’t been called Murder Ave. for at least a decade. But yeah, the businesses have improved drastically in recent years. I still feel the need to patronize Castro’s (on the next block) cuz I like its authentic Tex-Mex vibe.
