Le Gamin opened at full capacity yesterday at 108 Franklin Avenue in Greenpoint. Le Gamin will serve a variety of sweet and savory crêpes, sandwiches, salads, and desserts in a casual, French inspired space. The ‘full bistro menu,’ with items like steak-frites and moules-frites, differs slightly from Le Gamin’s Prospect Heights location, according to Grubstreet. For about the last week or so, Le Gamin has had a very soft opening, in which food was prepared outside in Le Gamin’s mobile truck (photo on the jump). Starting yesterday, the truck will head for Malibu, CA and the kitchen will be open. Founder Robert Arbor told us that he had received approval from the community board for a liquor license, so while it’s BYOB for the time being, you can expect beer and wine offerings soon. — Thomas Santella

  1. Is Prospect Heights the 5th Beatle or something? First the Wine Exchange gets ripped off by Brooklyn Wine Exchange, and now Le Gamin Cafe faces another french restaurant of the same name?

  2. i believe that you can get a license for BYOB.

    this is a good shot of Franklin St. btw.. kind of gives those unfamiliar with it an idea.

    i’ve had some really good food from le gamin for lunch back when they had a dumbo location. actually used them for catering for lunch years ago.

  3. yes… better than “soft then hard”…

    i love french food. i love food in general! i live near the vanderbilt ave restaurant, and honestly, i was very disapointed when i went there 6-8 months ago. the food was a let down for all the hype it gets, and i have not been back since.

    to be fair, i never tried their crepes, but the entrees were a let down unfortunately.

    Yeah – you’re right, although I don’t think it’s actively enforced. There’s many restaurants that have been BYOB for a while (Lucali for one, unless they have some sort of special permit) and haven’t gotten in trouble with the SLA.
