Serge – I see what you’re saying, but in my experience, I know more people who have been robbed or had their cars broken into on the UWS/UES than in Ft. Greene over the past 7 years. I just take exception to the insinuation that because Fort Greene has public housing or lower income tenants on some of its prime blocks, it’s somehow a “worse” neighborhood.
But everybody’s entitled to their opinion – I’m not hating on you personally, Serge, it just chafes sometimes when race/safety seem so correlated in someone’s opinions.
Serge- perhaps you should be so kind and determine as to why you feel that way. As a long term fort greene property owner who bought here when you were probably smoking crack with momma, I have never had a problem but i do enjoy the value of my home now. Living with diversity and liking it.
The entire rear facade of the building looks like it is falling apart. Another Kara Kasper trash listing.

Sorry if you are put off by my comments, they are not intended to offend, but Fort Greene isn’t Darien, it isn’t the Upper West Side. you would never know it from the real estate prices, but its rough around the edges. young people who think its a safe area should think again.
Wow, Serge. I hate when people put down other commentors, so I’ll tread lightly, but that’s an awfully weird tone you’re taking given that few people would deem South Oxford (or any of the other park blocks) dangerous.
And Bob — not just paint, but resurfacing. I think there might be some paint on the window trim, but the stonework supposedly will be redone and not just painted over. That’s what I was told, and hope it’s true.
The fire and explosion happened because the developer did not pay his “insurance” to the neighborhood coalition. Or perhaps, worse, paid the insurance to wrong group. hey, this is New York kiddies. It ain’t all frapucinos and sushi.

“But on Jan. 15, 1987, flames roared through the five-story building at 69 South Oxford Street, and when it was over, all that remained was a three-and-a-half story facade and a pile of charred rubble. Investigators were never able to determine what had caused the fire.”

was anyone killed in the 80’s explosion? and was it deemed suspicious or criminal?
also, how did they rid the place of the tenants prior to the 2005 conversion? was this an SRO or separate apartments?
amazing if true that the upper facade had to be rebuilt – looks so authentic and matches perfectly…
as i walked to this property to view it, i said to myself, “this place has to be really bad for me to pass up the neighborhood and price.”
i passed.
