Star chocolatier Jacques Torres may be expanding his presence in Dumbo as soon as this summer, reports The Huffington Post and picked up by the 92nd Street Y blog. At a talk last night at The Y, Torres revealed that he was considering opening up an ice cream shop next door to his chocolate store on Water Street in Dumbo. As we discovered when we passed by a few minutes ago, Torres currently rents the space next door (above) as an office. He’s also considering getting a truck for selling ice cream this summer. Sweet!

  1. They have started selling cookies at Brooklyn Ice Cream factory so you can make your own sandwich there if you want. Also, you can bring in the chocolate chip cookies from Almondine and make your own sandwich with those.

  2. If it is the same ice cream they are putting in the sandwiches and/or selling across the street at Almondine (which I think has some ties to the Torres empire though I could be wrong) it doesn’t hold a candle to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory ice cream, which is way better. There is already also a Ciao Bella in the Rice outlet in Dumbo. I can see why Torres would want to try to get some of the customers waiting on line at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory but he’s going to have to make better ice cream to get this one.

  3. You haven’t had an iceccream sandwich until you’ve tried a Jacque Torres ice cream sandwich. Imagine 2 large freshly baked chocolate chip cookies with habanero-tinged chocolate ice cream in between. One day’s worth of calories, but oh, so worth it.

  4. Excellent news! Jacques Torres makes the best chocolate in New York. Also, you can go to their website and watch little video tours he gives of his factory and stores. It’s quite endearing.
