The plight of Greenpoint residents living atop an oil spill that spans “41 football fields” got some national attention in an AP article yesterday. The article details the painfully slow pace with which Exxon Mobil has addressed the situation: More than half of the 17-million-gallon spill is still thought to be in the ground. Some 20-odd Greenpointers finally sued the oil giant in December, citing foul-smelling fumes that could be toxic or flammable.
