The Gifted holiday market is now underway at the Masonic Temple at 317 Lafayette Avenue; there are also a bunch of brave vendors outdoors across the street at the regular Flea site. The indoor market goes until 6 p.m. today so come on over! Update: Here’s the scene at around 3:30 today.

  1. It was insanely crowded–many vendors never got seen because folks squeezing through the narrow artery of each aisle couldn’t see over the shoulders of those shopping; the “mommy” in me was thinking “fire hazard!” But the vendors were fascinating. The guy with raw cacao chocolate from some heirloom Mayan cocoa bean blew my taste buds away. Unfortunately, at $7 for a bar the size of an Ipod Nano, I couldn’t buy. But I did get a nifty antique postcard of Prospect Park!
And a note: the Flea was still open for business, with this awesome guy who brings his own pizza oven on a flatbed truck AND the Red Hook taco guys–both messy foods that are uniquely divine when consumed out of hand in a freezing wind!
