  1. Usually, if you rent the ground floor of a brownstone, you get backyard rights. I would guess that’s why they are sometimes refered to as garden apts.

    My landlord never cared what I did with the backyard as long it was kept neat. Although he was surprised to find the huge cast iron tub I’d kept from my bathroom renovation being used as a planter back there.

  2. Lucky them! I hope they have installed two very important items: a compost drum and a rain barrel attached to the gutter! Both can save the gardener(s) alot of money, and be fun projects for the kids as well.
