Chickens, Ballet and Shadow Puppets: A Guide to September Garden Events

From urban farming to shadow puppets and ballet, the New York Restoration Project (NYRP) is holding a plethora of free events this month. All happenings will take place in Brooklyn gardens that the nonprofit has been beautifying since Bette Midler founded the organization in 1995.
NYRP will host four Arts in the Gardens series in Brooklyn this month.
Featuring a diverse array of performing artists, the series will include a performance called Threshold II, featuring artist LEIMAY, who will use dance, theater, music and light (7:30 p.m. on September 5 at Gil Hodges Community Garden, 534 Carroll Street).
There will also be an evening of Take Ballet to the Streets, in which Brooklyn Ballet Company and Youth Ensemble will dance ballet and hip-hop in a public setting (5-7 p.m. September 10 at Target Community Garden, 931 Bedford Avenue).
The Art of a Story welcomes all ages, but is aimed giving older adults the experience of group story-crafting (2-4 p.m. September 26 at Garden of Hope, 392 Hancock St.).
For all the urban farmers out there, City Chicken Institute is a workshop on raising a flock in an urban setting (6-7 p.m. September 10 at Imani Community Garden, 87 Schenectady Ave).
Lastly, there will be two free shadow puppet shows performed by local theater company Midnight Radio Show, the first in East New York and the second in Bed Stuy (7:45 p.m. September 18-19 at Hendrix Street Community Garden, 532 Hendrix St. and Target Community Garden, 931 Bedford Avenue, respectively).
