We just received word that the City Council has formally approved the creation of the Fulton BID, which will extend from Flatbush to Classon. There were nine objections that were filed late (presumably from the eastern end of Clinton Hill where anti-BID posters had appeared in some store windows), the effort had unanimous support from property and store owners—and City Council. Council Member Tish James and the Pratt Area Community Council deserve big props for getting this done. Let’s hope that Fulton Street’s brightest days lie ahead. On a related note, we’re hearing that buses are expected to return to this stretch by some time next week.

  1. This is great news. While I expressed sympathy with the retailers that didn’t want it last week, in the end I think the objectors were thinking very short-sightedly. I also hope that the best days of Fulton Street as a commercial strip and local hub are ahead of it.
