Rob — again, the paradigm shift is not the price but the method of payment. Also, if you don’t think 90% of street vendor food is already overpriced… I don’t know what magical land you live in.

WTF????? How much does food from a street vendor cost??? Maybe $6.00????
oh much like everything else, the paradigm shift from cheap eats to ridiculously overpriced expensive crap will happen very soon. :*(

No signing at the register, and no signing in cabs anymore, and I’m guessing street vendors will use the same system. I find that even in some stores (e.g., Whole Foods, CVS), for purchases under a certain dollar amount ($10 or $20), they no longer require you to sign.
Until recently, I had only used plastic in a cab once many years ago, because they had to put the double carbons on a little clipboard, and then you had to fill it out, and the driver had to give you your copy. And so the transaction costs of paying by cash were lower. Now the reverse is true.
Under a certain amount, ($20 to $25) many vendors – including post office – don’t require signature.
I’ve never used one in a cab. I figured for fast food the authorization and the signing would slow things down.
Cool photo.
Morning, dave. Actually, much to my surprise, I’ve recently discovered that using plastic has become faster than using cash. I’ve gotten in the habit of paying for even a $1.50 bagel in the cafeteria at work with a credit card because they swipe it on the side of the register, and you’re done in 2 seconds. No entering the amount of cash you gave them, no fumbling with change. I couldn’t understand why people here paid with everything by credit cards until I tried it for myself. Same with cabs I now find.
“A spokesman for the group said it wants to make sure food carts remain an option for people looking for a quick bite to eat.”
WTF????? How much does food from a street vendor cost??? Maybe $6.00???? Credit cards at street vendors will slow down what has traditionally been the fastest food in the city.
This is just asinine.
Sorry, got Friday Links confused with Thursday Blogwrap.
