I agree, ringo. Whoever designed that playground either doesn’t have kids or hates them.
But I LOVE the photo above.
I hate to be a hater, but I hate this park design. I mean, it’s fine (other than the part where it’s falling apart or poorly designed). But it feels a little like park to walk thru and “experience” instead of hang out in. Also, too much American Chelsea Piers idea of recreation (here are the soccer fields) and not enough European romance.
I would have loved to see a world’s fair approach with elements donated (or not) from other countries. A tea house. A crystal palace. An English garden. Some cool middle eastern shit. Africa! Latin America! It could have been so brooklyn!
Don’t get me wrong — I’m sure we’ll use this park all the time (but your kids first, please). Just seems like a missed opportunity.
Note to City: don’t hire a “landscape architect” to design a playground. Hire a playground architect.
Seems that the architects had no clue about a kids park design!!!! I wonder how much of the $800k was their fee???
I love the new park on Pier 1, but, even putting aside the stupidity of the stainless steel domes, that kiddie park, with exactly 6 swings, 3 domes, 3 fire hydrant-like things, and 3 animals, cost $800,000??? Are you kidding me with this?
