So glad the city is prosecuting people who commit mortgage fraud.
Perhaps you are joking, Wine Lover. Illegal conversions increase rents in the area, even though there is more supply.
The tenants should hire a lawyer and get a three-month extension on their eviction. Nobody should be thrown out into the street with no notice.
I hope this doesn’t portend a change in DOB policy. So far there have been three evictions (this is the fourth) but the other three were more for safety issues than technicalities. I hope the DOB continues to turn a blind eye toward illegal conversions. If they rezone the loft area to residential, it will ruin Bushwick with “luxury” development.
