  1. There’s another cool happening in Flatbush this weekend, and it’s free: our first Artists Studio tour! Saturday and Sunday, noon to five; details on http://www.flatbushartists.org, or troll Cortelyou Road around Vox Pop and Connecticut Muffin for walking-tour maps. Yes, Victorian Flatbush is crawling with talented artists…who knew!?

  2. I wonder how many people would have actually shown up for the rally if they hadn’t been bused in from all over Brooklyn, they didn’t have a sports celebrity there and if the Union hadn’t leaned on its members to show up? So how many people there were really there to support the project as just Brooklynites? By that I mean those who have no personal stake in it but want a project with the arena? While the union can tout the jobs- plenty of jobs were destroyed as businesses were pushed out to make way for the project.

While Bertha Lewis and others flog the affordable housing horse (and really- if you’re making 100,000 a year why the hell do you need a housing subsidy?) they don’t mention it is in a very nebulous phase 2 and far from guaranteed to be built or built in AY itself.

“Zarzana (head of the carpenters union) was the only speaker to target elected officials who are opponents or critics of the project. “There’s a bunch of politicians we need to straighten out, like [City Council Member] Tish James,” he said.” from the AY report-

If I were Tish James I’d have that man arrested for making threats.

Sounds like desperation there- it was a good show- well orchestrated and put together. Like a Theater of the Absurd. (As for Recchia- his district is Coney Island. I can’t wait til they start dealing with the problems from new development. CH, PH, Clinton Hill, etc should all go down there and butt into their business.)
