Petebklyn, what are you talking about? IMO it’s the exact same thing as calling it the Detroitization of the neighborhood: Brooklyn will never be Manhattan as it will never be Detroit or any place other than BROOKLYN.
I mentioned those cities (and there are plenty others) because I’ve been to them and seen what great loss of population and investment has done to those places.
I fail to see how AY is in Manhattan’s interest not Brooklyn’s. It’s one city and Brooklyn plus Manhattan only make up 1/2 of it. And it’s the whole city that I think benefits. Or at least it’s the future of whole city we have to consider when debating pros and cons.
Sorry for the error but I think of the 2 boroughs representing 2 very different lifestyles. I hated living in Manhattan. Other people love it. What I do resent is that the powers that be have decided to use Brooklyn- not for its best interests, but for Manhattan’s. And that means all of us pay the price. If they really acted in Brooklyn’s interest they would be looking for ways to provide better low income housing, they wouldn’t be using public space for private developers, they wouldn’t be packing the waterfront with hi income hi-rise housing, the AY would never get built as designed so that it would not strain our resources, and the MTA would not be letting Ratner have the air rights for free(coincidence that the city will put in 100,000,000$ and the air rights cost Ratner the same amount?)
As for Detroit and Buffalo- why would you mention those in particular(as if we didn’t both already know why you did).
‘Manhattanization’ is not the pols word – its the very anti-AY Brooklyn Papers word. And to me, their use of the term sounds very provincial. Do you feel an important part of your city is so awful that you would use ‘Manhattanizion’ in derogatory manner? Did Manhattan become an awful slum because of the tall buildings?
If you thought AY would bring about the
‘Detroitization’ or ‘Buffalo-ization’ of the nabe I’d be more concerned.
With you on that. Gargano sounds like a major moron- “the state will respond” if the project impacts too much. By then it’s too late. I don’t get it- do these people not think? Are they so far up one another’s butts that that the only time they come up for air is when they want votes? And then they lie to get those. I find it truly offensive that anyone thinks it’s time for the “manhattanization” of Brooklyn. Well, they say misery loves company. These arrogant useless ignorant brown-nosed money pimps have long forgotten that they were elected by or put in positions to serve the people, not their greedy friends. As a class pols are pretty slimy, but the last few years it just seems they have gone from slimy to downright disgusting.
AY, Ratner and a majority of our elected officials are now officially making me sick.
