Come on Brownstoner….you all are supposed to know the turf you write about. That shooting took place in Flatbush, not Prospect Park South, which is a residential neighborhood IN Flatbush. But the two are not synonymous.
That’s right. If you read the NYTimes article, it said, “south of Prospect Park.” not Prospect Park South, which is a specific (and non-violent) neigborhood to the west of the shooting.
Well to be fair, I don’t really think Church and E 19th is a hotbed of violence either, but it would be more unusual for a violent crime like that to take place in a quiet residential neighborhood.
Waiting BLM. Oh wait, these shootings/murders are different.
Well, peace out they are different. The police are there to prevent violence not commit violence.
Sorry, when innocent people in the black communities are being gunned down simply for being in the wrong place/wrong time and there is no outrage is disgraceful. How dare the mayor characterize these recent shootings as “just criminals against criminals”? So that means the 76 year old man killed this weekend, the young pregnant girl in Red Hook who was shot and lost her baby, the mayor’s aide killed over Labor Day weekend is not worthy of outrage amongst the black community and all of NYC? Where are the “leaders” who are so eager to pass judgement on the police when these events happen? Good and innocent people live in these war zones, fearful of their lives 24/7, and the mayor tamps it down, let them eat cake I guess.
Peaceout, of course people are upset when innocent people die. Just like in Sandy Hook, Aurora or this weekend in Brooklyn. To think otherwise means you have agenda.
Calling these neighborhoods a war zone is ridiculous- as I’m sure you’ve never been to an actual war zone. You can be upset at any lost of life and police shootings with equal horror. It’s called being a human being.
Boerumresident,
FYI, through Sunday, there has been 251 murders this year compared to 229 last year. That’s an increase of 10%. That’s a huge spike and we all need to be concerned about this specially when our politicians have stripped our NYPD of the one most effective policing practice, stop and frisk, to get guns off our streets.
An increase of 5% in murder rate compared to prior year (excluding last week’s murders) is concerning. The bigger concern is that our politicians (Cumbo, and Tish James) have no tangible plans on how to deal with the issue other than asking people to pray for the killings to stop.
