empire-stores-0109.jpgWe missed this so maybe you did too. A one-sentence nugget in yesterday’s NY Post story about delays at Brooklyn Bridge Park, following up on the original story in the Brooklyn Paper: “Also put off was a plan to renovate the Civil War-era Empire Stores warehouse within the park and convert it to retail space.” What a shame that is—an activated building in that location would really be a boost to Dumbo. Hey, in the meantime, we’d be happy to fill it with Flea vendors! Thanks to DumboNYC for picking this up.

  1. It’s Ash, not Ashe. She may not listen to your letters and save the building if you don’t spell her name correctly.

Also – this is all a bunch of hooey. I was at the CB2 meeting that all of these recent articles are based on. Noone ever said anything about cancelling or even delaying any of the development necessary to support the park. All that was said was that they have never issued a timeline for the development, they still are not prepared to issue a timeline, but obviously, it probably wouldn’t be a great idea to put out RFP’s for real estate development in the current environment.

All these recent articles are sensationalist journalism at it’s worst.

  2. I completely agree with BK.
    Unbelievably, incredibly, superbly, stupid.
These buildings are on the verge of collapse thanks to the boneheaded policies of the State of New York.

    Write your letters to:
    Carol Ashe
    Commissioner of State Parks

  3. Really fucking stupid. Should have been given to Two Trees years ago, would be all the way live now.
State gave to Boymelgreen based on absurb rent projections. Time to get real.

State should RFP this year anyway, as process will take 12-18 months to designate, after which design, marketing work starts. So 3-5 years from now anyway, when market is back.

Won’t be best #s but if you wait for market, will be 7-10 years, a crime.
