The State Liquor Authority will be coming down to Brooklyn next week to try to rein in a wide-spread problem that’s particularly out of control in our fair borough—unauthorized BYOB policies at restaurants (particularly ones that have just opened and are waiting for their liquor licenses). We would look negatively at that, said the SLA Commissioner. While complaints will come in through the SLA, it’s the local police precincts that end up having to do the enforcement.
“I always BYOB.”
Xanders [shaking my head] now you’ve made me laugh for the 2nd time today!
Ditmas Park BYOB:
Top Cafe Tibet, right by the Cortelyou subway station (deli next door sells beer)
(if I’m not mistaken) Mimi’s Hummus, across from the firehouse, right next to TB Ackerson wine
Is Vinegar Hill House still byob?
byo places in fort greene/clinton hill:
abistro, black iris, amin indian, zaytoons, bati (for now), olea (on tuesdays!!!)
I always BYOB.
I know of very few BYOB places and I’m always looking for them. Where are all these places you speak of? Can we make a list?
Illegal clubs, etc: expensive to bust and to prosecute.
BYOB and people drinking on stoops: easy to bust and cash cow in fines.
FSRG,
Nothing fair about business. Considering the typical 100%+ markup on liquor, many of those places could slash drink prices and still turn a decent profit–and make customers happy. After all, I’d rather NOT walk up and down Smith Street carrying the fifth of Jack Daniels and two bottle of wine necessary for any good meal!
I love BYOB system, sad they are are bothering with this. Irony is law reads, i am told, that restaurants With License can allow byob and those Without, Cannot… actually. Tradition is reverse of course.
