Last November, reigning retail broker Tim King set off a flurry of speculation when he announced at the Brooklyn Real Estate Roundtable that a high-end food retailer had signed a least for the space at 117 Court Street at a rate of $125 per foot. Much guesswork ensued, until someone on Chowhound authoritatively declared that the lessee was none other than Boar’s Head. Now that’s looking like a bum tip: A sign that just went up in the window reveals a “fine delicatessen,” called F. Martinella, is on the way. A recorded message says they’re hiring for all positions, offering “competitive salaries” and benefits to full and part-time employees, and that they’re an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. Maybe they have good roast beef, too?

  1. “Boar’s Head is a deli meat supplier.

When a deli sells excusively Boar’s Head products, they get to advertise the Boar’s Head logo in their window.”

They have started retail chains. Maybe they’ve decided that there’s too much confusion in the re-branding and are calling it something else…

    Sounds very corporate to me.

  3. zinka might be right…IronBalls…I remeber the sign up there before using the Boars Head name and it did somewhat suggest that this was going to be some kind of Boars Head outlet. It just looked like something different from a Boars Head logo used in conjunction with a new retailer.

What do you all think the F. stands for? Talk amongst yourselves.

  4. that’s odd that the name doesn’t leave a google trace – i passed by the sign last week and it said Since 1948 or something around there, which begs the question, where?
