The trailer for a movie in production called “A Walk Around Fort Greene” hit Vimeo last week. Here’s the synopsis: “A feature-length documentary about the black arts movement that exploded in Fort Greene from the mid 1980s through the 90s.The film features Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Rosie Perez, Vernon Reid, Carl Hancock Rux, Saul Williams, Lorna Simpson, Alva Rogers, Kevin Powell, Toure, Bill Stephany to name a few.”

  1. Yes, ” those were the days”……. I lived in Fort Greene at that time. It hardly looks the same. This was when crack was a major problem. You would be asking for trouble if you walked through the park alone. Spike Lee’s, film, Do The Right Thing, captures what those days were really like. However, it was a creative place just the same. It’s nice to see great talent speak about their experiences.

    an absolutely fantastic clip from the upcoming documentary, a walk through fort greene. the fort greene/clinton hill that i know, knew, love, loved and will always remember. the vibe during that time will never be again because of the changes that have taken place in the neighborhood (s). an era lost yet still here if you are willing to understand and accept it and embrace it!
