Yes, ” those were the days”……. I lived in Fort Greene at that time. It hardly looks the same. This was when crack was a major problem. You would be asking for trouble if you walked through the park alone. Spike Lee’s, film, Do The Right Thing, captures what those days were really like. However, it was a creative place just the same. It’s nice to see great talent speak about their experiences.
So when and where will it be showing? I would love to see it. Those were the days indeed!
Those were the days.
Yeah, there is no reason that this community can’t still be that kind of place. Hope this gets a major release of some kind.
this was posted last week on the nyts fort greene/clinton hill blog, but glad you decided to post it as well.
an absolutely fantastic clip from the upcoming documentary, a walk through fort greene. the fort greene/clinton hill that i know, knew, love, loved and will always remember. the vibe during that time will never be again because of the changes that have taken place in the neighborhood (s). an era lost yet still here if you are willing to understand and accept it and embrace it!
I remember seeing the late Betty Carter at BAM with all those young Jazz Ahead musicians…
