Here’s a teaser for the architectural history buffs out there. When The Flea opens its doors at the former Williamsburgh Bank Building tomorrow morning at 10, you’ll be able to nose around all three levels of the landmarked space, including the basement vault (photo #3) where the food vendors will be and the mezzanine (photos #4 and #5) where a handful of vendors will be spread out. The Flea will be taking place every Saturday and Sunday through the end of March from 10 am to 5 pm at One Hanson Place. You can take any number of subways to the Atlantic Terminal or the C train to Lafayette. See you there!

  1. I remember as a kid running errands with my father and stopping at the bank. Its architecture spoke to affluence and stability. As a teenager, I made deposits for my father on my way to the orthodontist, upstairs. The WSB building was known as the dental capital of the world.

  2. “truly pathetic.”

Corny, maybe. But pathetic, seems a bit much. Thanks for turning a perfectly lovely thread about a super cool thing in our community into a chance to show everyone how miserable you are. Hope to see you there 🙂

  3. O! M! G! Fabulous detail. This more than makes up for the scrooges at the Woolworth Building closing the lobby to tourists. If anyone films a remake of Mary Poppins, this is where the Banks’ bank should be set.
