A reader tipped us off to this sidewalk art project in Fort Greene, where the stenciling seems reminiscent of the “Park Slope Trail” that popped up on Union and Fifth Avenue. The signs are hanging on lampposts on opposite corners of South Portland and Hanson Place, one inviting passersby to record their height and the other soliciting “complaints” (apparently the complaints box affixed to it was taken down last week). Failed art, good art, incomprehensible art? We can’t decide. GMAP

  1. I’m more interested in the nexus of gentry and ghetto. My favorite break point for the moment (it is a constantly raising bar) is 3rd Ave and 9th St. in South Brooklyn (Gowanus, South Slope, whatever) On the Northwest Corner stand s and absolutely excellent hot table latin food restaurant “Sonia’s” a rapidly disappearing genre, excellent cheap rice and beans. On the Southeast Corner, some upscale bar (a quickly growing genre).

I had a wet dream the other night where they joined forces and the menu from Sonias (after it was printed in English) found its way onto the tables at the upscale bar. Every time someone wanted some carne guizada to go with their mug of Sierra Nevada or glass of pino noir, they would send an email across the street to Sonia. I bet the whole exchange wouldn’t take more than 2 minutes.
