Earlier this week Gawker held an online vote to pick the replacement for the term ‘hipster.” The five finalists were Doucheoisie, Fauxhemians, Pabstsmears, Probos and Trendsluts. The winner by a landslide? Fauxhemian.

  1. Snore.

I think I know a few persons that would fall under the ever-expanding definition of “hipster”. None of them have family money. They live in cheap apartments in Bushwick, Clinton Hill, Sunset Park, and Windsor Terrace because they can’t afford a 2 bedroom condo in Brooklyn Heights since they are not i-bankers at Goldman. They are not renovating brownstones or searching for that victorian claw foot tub. They have real jobs, the 9-7pm $55k/year type jobs with shite insurance…That NY gray zone income level. So who is everyone really railing against? This topic is just stupid. It’s odd that NYers (and transplants) who probably find the art and music scene and its history in this city as one of the major draws, yet constantly feel the need to judge and criticize.

  2. This isn`t that interesting and it`s mean-spirited. What do you really know about these people in the picture? To post photos of people you don`t know and have a derogatory name contest involving the word slut is pretty bad in my opinion. It takes snarky to a new ugly level.

  3. ^ preciient bklnmx, (im totally serious). if you look at people these ages in the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc, do you really see a difference? i dont. im 33 and already these youngsters annoy me, but then im like omg stop being a grump and let people live their youth the way youth is supposed to BE.. you know… fashion, music, friends, (drugs), & fuck all of you old people who hate on us 🙂

  4. i know we all have our likes and dislikes about certain people, but can’t we all just quit with the labeling and let people just be? People are who they are regardless of how they’re dressed, how they look, the $ they have and so on…I think it has a lot to do with how one was raised as a child. I really am soooo over this whole “hipster” thing…this is who these people are..and maybe next year they will be different people. This is the beauty of life! You’ll have to forgive the rambling but I just think we have bigger problems in our world than trying to come up with yet another label for people.
