McBrooklyn has provided visual evidence, above, of the current campaign to get a classy retailer in the large commercial space at Downtown’s 345 Adams Street, next door to the newish Morten’s. The space, which Muss Development bought from the city more than a year ago, used to house Department of Finance offices. The firm marketing the space told the Eagle that they’re looking for a tenant like Brooks Brothers. So far, though, it’s been businesses like Staples and Duane Reade that have expressed interest in taking the lease.

Conway and Strawberry are three blocks away already. A store with a range of good lawyer suits to backroom dress-casual that can compete with the nearby Macy’s stock could work; most cheap versions of nice clothing in the small stores Downtown fall apart after first wearing.
However, we really need a Staples that’s near a train station or BedBathBeyond.
not too many people wear air jordans to work either….but there sure are a lot of shops to buy them in BK. There are armies of lawyers in the neighborhood every day wearing suits, but I’m not sure they would support a full size BB.
That said, I think something more like a J Crew would have a chance. I like the idea of a uniglo b/c its clothes have a wide target market. T’s for kids; dressier stuff for working stiffs. However, my bet is that their next USA store will be more in a more glamorous location.
They might get a Conway’s, Strawberry’s, Dress Barn, August Max…although, those stores most probably do not need a huge space.
What about a Quincy Market type food court? How many people are in downtown Brooklyn eating lunch on any given weekday? Would it crush local eateries?

There’s also a Century 21 and Brooks Brothers 2 subway stops from this place (albeit in Manhattan)
35k sqft is alot of space – are they looking for one store to take the whole thing, or would they subdivide?
Oh I just remembered there’s already a Tjmaxx at Atlantic Center…probably don’t need another one of those.
I think there’s an H&M not far from here at the Fulton Mall.
Century 21 would be great, as would TjMaxx. Filene’s isn’t going to be opening anymore stores anytime soon…they just closed a bunch.
Perhaps something like a Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel type place for all the new residents along Flatbush and in Dumbo. People would pay more for those home furnishings just to not have to trek to Ikea or Manhattan, I’d think.
I’m still thinking an Apple Store in Downtown Brooklyn would be a huge hit with that area and the surrounding brownstone neighborhoods.
An H&M or Uniqlo would do well here.
