The Friends of Douglass/Greene Park, the nonprofit that raises funds for the renovation of Thomas Greene Park on 3rd Avenue and Douglass, has posted conceptual plans for the park’s revamp on its website. (This is probably old news, but it’s the first time we’ve seen the rendering.) The organization notes that the first phase of the project, which will include new play units with a spray shower and the seating/picnic area, will hopefully begin this September and take a year, while the rest of the plans are still conceptual. As Patch reported, Community Board 6’s parks, recreation and cultural affairs committee approved the new design in February.

Agreed on the wading pool!
A huge thank you to all the volunteers who have worked so hard to make this happen.
I should have looked at the rendering before. Yes I should have. But I didn’t, and now I’m dismayed to see the absence of a separate wading pool. The current wading pool has been a tremendous boon to babies and children under 5 who can’t swim yet. Because it’s separate from the rowdier children and just deep enough for safe toddler / preschooler adventuring (one foot), the wading pool made it possible for my children to spend highly pleasurable hours at the pool every summer. Now that they are older (and happy to join the rowdier children in the big pool), I hope we can find a way keep this wonderful little pool for the younger ones.
Did anybody go to the presentation back in February? It’s not very clear how long this would take. I imagine that the even with the best intentions it would be hard to organize construction of the new pool in such a way that the old pool is not out of service for at least one summer.
