Closing Bell: For the Birds in Greenpoint
A reader sent in this photo (more here) with the following note: I was walking down Franklin in front of Bushwick Inlet the other night and saw this art thing/sculpture/? erected there. Maybe someone knows what it is? Anyone know? Has it been roosting there for awhile? GMAP

so, INSIJS, did you ever find out what it is?
I think it has something to do with the Indian Larry folks and his chopper shop which is right up the street.
It went in about a year ago, just after DOT redid the sidewalks up there. We reported on it in our Walk Around Greenpoint series http://imnotsayin.blogspot.com/2007/01/walk-around-greenpoint-part-one-what.html
To me, it looks like it references a garden whirligig, which are most always rustic or folk-art in their design and appearance.
Not much of an art project. Would probably take me about 30 minutes to cobble that crap together with a plasma cutter and MIG welder.
Is it another odd REVS welding thingy? Looks a bit sub-par for him.
I don’t know, but I think somebody needs a couple more years at Pratt.
