Closing Bell: Daily Candy Sweetens The Dumbo Flea
We’re not sleeping with anyone at The Times, though you’d be forgiven for thinking so given the amount of coverage we’ve gotten in the past month. We’re not sleeping with anyone at The Times, though you’d be forgiven for thinking so given the amount of coverage we’ve gotten in the past month. Yesterday, writer Mike Albo wrote up what was probably our favorite article about The Flea yet. It should give the month-old Dumbo Pop-Up market some extra momentum this weekend. Not that it should need it: Daily Candy is setting up its own mega-booth in 81 Front this weekend that will feature carnival games, prizes and interior design ideas. Also spicing up 81 Front this weekend: Bardwell Farm, a 140-year-old producer of small-batch, all-natural cheeses from Vermont, and DJ’s from Dumbo vinyl mecca Halcyon. As usual, we’ll have a full house of antiques and vintage dealers in the original space at 76 Front Street, so get there early for the pick of the litter. Check out the Flea Blog for directions and more info on the various vendors that will be in both spaces. The Dumbo market will be open at 76 and 81 Front Street on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March 29; F train to York Street or A/C to High Street.

i used to go to 26th street every weekend. I’ve gone to the outdoor 26th street flea now since it opened and i love it as much – the winter pop up indoors is a wonderful filler for the cold weather. I never expect bathrooms at a fleamarket, so that’s just plain whining…
thank you brownstoner for making our borough and the city at large a better place!
In a time when retail stores are closing left and right, yesterday was nothing short of a triumph–lots of people enjoying spending money supporting small, local businesses. I was there around 3 and it was packed. And that’s a good thing. Congratulatoins.
We went there around 11AM Sunday, and it wasn’t crowded yet. This is the first time we made it to the Flea. Better stuff than we see in a lot of places, but we didn’t buy anything cuz we already have a lot of stuff! We did buy a piece of cheese from the cheese guy, tho. Lucky us, we ran into Mr. B. also.
tw ..the daily candy thing was just…stupid
i was amazed by what a crappy little outfit the whole flea market was… i used to deal with the 26th st flea market in manhattan and compared to that the dumbo thing is a joke
I like the flea. but. It was pretty crowded there. crowded more like a Barney’s sample sale and not so enjoyable for browsing. plus to the organizers – where are the freaking bathrooms?
we had to wait in a line about 20 people long at Starbucks to take a leak. There were no bathrooms in the 2 event spaces, no signs for bathrooms, no nuthin. Spent more time waiting in line to pee than shopping.
The Flea is so terrific! Today was my first time down at the Dumbo location.
Seems to be doing well…it was a MOB SCENE!!
Seriously.
Found a really great find and would have looked more, but it was rather crowded. I’ll be back for sure.
Thanks all for putting this together and so happy to see it’s become such a resounding success.
Dumbo in general was so packed today. I’m sure it was a combination of the great weather and Flea.
